"VOYAGR hit the Buffalo music scene with their first EP, Think Of You, in 2022. The group initially formed as a passion project for songwriters AJ Jabaji (rhythm guitar, vocals), Rachel Josey (vocals), and John Morano (drums), but soon grew to be a full band with the addition of Drew Shannon (bass) and Joe Brown (lead guitar). Since then they've been on a steady rise, continuing to release music and performing at large festivals locally and beyond, including this summer's Taste of Country. On Wednesday, November 26th, VOYAGR will release their debut album, Born a Believer, accompanied by a show at Buffalo Iron Works.
Chelsea O. chatted with the band about the release of their debut album, songwriting while on a flight home, their aim to delve into themes of faith, loss, and connection, and much more."

Congratulations to Voyagr - they have won our Taste of Country Buffalo Riser competition and will open #toc24 !!! Huge congrats as well to to runner up Christian Kramer & The Backwoods Revival, who will open our TOC Acoustic show this fall!
Fans of the early 21st century folk revival are going to find a lot like in this song from VOYAGR. There’s an energetic folk style to the song that invites listeners to sing along. The harmonies are absolutely magical on this one. The composition style brings together layers of goodness from the vocals to the quality guitar work. The repeated lyric “I choose you. I choose us,” is a perfect explanation of the devotion it takes to make a long term relationship work. The choice to love is endearing; this song captures the joy of devotion with beauty and grace.
"We do not know enough about Billie Eilish to lie and say that we’re fans– our extent of Eilish trivia only goes so far as knowing that she wore a Taylor Hawkins t-shirt as a means of paying tribute to him after he’d left this world. So when we heard VOYAGR’s cover of “Lovely,” we were A) unaware that it was a cover and B) blown away by their phenomenal performance. If you have yet to hear of them, this folky pop trio comes from New York and though they had initially submitted an original tune of theirs called “Oh Brother,” which is also completely worth your time, we opted to feature their most recent release on the blog. "
"Just in time for the holidays, VOYAGR has released a Christmas song, which dropped in November, in addition to the band’s new EP.
Comprised of vocalist Rachel Ball, guitarist A.J. Jabaji, and drummer John Morano, the band came together when Jabaji shared a project called “VOYAGR” with the others. Shortly after venues began opening after the pandemic lockdown, the trio began playing together.
“After so many times, I’m just like, ‘Guys, we should be a band,'” Ball recalled. “I feel like I just wanted to pursue something and I wanted to see what they thought of it.”

“There’s nothing worse than having heartbreak” starts the song and sets the direction. It’s a song about unrequited love and if you’ve ever felt that pain, this song will definitely connect. The genre is a bit of a pop folk style with some shades of modern country. The lyrics turn a little bitter in places, feeling the disgust and frustration when things just don’t work out. I appreciate the honesty and sincerity delivered here, with heartfelt folk vocal harmonies that really bring it together. The chorus encourages listeners to sing along and feel the pain as well."
